Lisa and Matt met in a hipster diner in DC, sharing their first, feisty conversation over fried green tomatoes and a chocolate milkshake. That unlikely combination presaged an adventurous future for these two complementary characters.
Although Alabama always will have a part of her heart (roll tide), Lisa’s roots are deep in Virginia, where she has found peace and inspiration among rolling green hills and charming historic towns like Alexandria and Middleburg. Meanwhile, Matt covered nearly the entire country looking for Lisa—scouring Arizona, California, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, and Tennessee—until he finally found her on a cold January night in Adams Morgan.
The couple can’t wait to escape the hustle and bustle of their adopted home in the District to celebrate with you in the Middleburg countryside.

Here’s a little information about Middleburg: While small, the town has outsized history and flavor. It was established in 1787 by Leven Powell, a Revolutionary War Colonel and Virginia statesman. He bought the land for Middleburg in 1763, at $2.50 per acre, from Joseph Chinn, a first cousin of George Washington. When Powell declined to have the town named after him, it was called Middleburgh, and later, simply Middleburg.
The oldest building in town, the Red Fox Inn, was originally established in 1728 by Joseph Chinn, as “Chinn’s Ordinary.” It is billed as the oldest continually operated inn in the U.S.
Since the 1730s, Middleburg had been a staging point for weary travelers along the Ashby Gap Road. The legacy of the colonial era continues today at Middleburg’s charming shops and inns, which provide first rate accommodations and wares to visitors from around the world.
In 1863, Middleburg witnessed two skirmishes during the Gettysburg Campaign of the Civil War.
Since the early 1900s, Middleburg has welcomed countless fox hunters, steeplechasers, and other riding enthusiasts. The village long ago earned its reputation as “the Nation’s Horse and Hunt Capital,” attracting prominent visitors from across the country. The Middleburg Historic District, comprising the 19th-century center of town, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
